Where this data comes from
Vehicle specs come from the NHTSA Product Information Catalog and Vehicle Listing (vPIC), the same decoder manufacturers file with. Carrier history comes from the FMCSA Safety Measurement System inspection file, which records the VIN of the power unit and trailer at each roadside inspection over the last 24 months. A vehicle that was not inspected in that window will decode but show no carrier.
Recalls are matched by make, model and year, so they may not apply to every VIN. Confirm with the manufacturer or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
You can also paste a VIN into the Carrier Database search, and every carrier profile lists the vehicles it ran through inspections.
