Best Trucking Tools (2026)
The TMS, load board, factoring company and ELD platform we recommend to carriers — and what each one is actually best for
We run a freight data platform, not a software vendor, so this list is short on purpose: four categories, one recommendation each. These are tools we use or have vetted with carriers. Some links are affiliate links — if you sign up through them it supports this platform at no extra cost to you, and it does not change what we recommend.

Truxel TMS
Transportation Management System (TMS)
An all-in-one transportation management system covering dispatch, invoicing, compliance and driver management in a single platform, so a small back office is not stitching together five separate tools.
- Dispatch board and load assignment in one place
- Invoicing tied directly to completed loads
- Driver and compliance document tracking
- Built around small-fleet workflows rather than enterprise complexity
Worth knowing: If you run a single truck and only a handful of loads a month, a full TMS may be more system than you need yet.

Load Board
The largest load board network in the industry, paired with rate benchmarking data. The value is less about seeing loads and more about knowing what a lane should pay before you take the call.
- Very large volume of posted loads across all 48 states
- Historical and current spot rate benchmarks by lane
- Broker credit and days-to-pay visibility
- Useful for negotiating rather than just accepting posted rates
Worth knowing: A load board is a subscription cost. If most of your freight is contracted or dedicated, the value drops quickly.

Freight Factoring
Freight factoring turns completed-load invoices into cash without waiting on broker payment terms. For a carrier adding trucks, the constraint is almost never freight — it is the gap between fueling a load and getting paid for it.
- Funding on invoices instead of waiting out broker terms
- Fuel card savings alongside the factoring program
- No long-term contract lock-in
- Dedicated support rather than a call-center queue
Worth knowing: Factoring always costs a percentage of the invoice. Run the math against your margin before committing volume.

ELD & Fleet Compliance
FMCSA-certified electronic logging with GPS tracking, IFTA reporting and AI dashcams in one platform. If your CSA scores or safety rating are hurting your insurance renewal, camera footage plus clean logs is the fastest lever you control.
- FMCSA-certified ELD compliance
- AI dashcams for exoneration and coaching
- GPS tracking and IFTA fuel tax reporting
- Useful evidence trail during roadside and insurance disputes
Worth knowing: Hardware plus subscription means real per-truck cost. The payback is usually insurance and violation reduction, not the ELD mandate alone.

What software does a new carrier actually need first?
In practice: an ELD (required if you run CMVs subject to the mandate), a way to find freight, and a way to get paid. A TMS becomes worth it once you are running enough loads that dispatch and paperwork start costing you a day a week.
Is factoring worth the fee?
It depends entirely on your margin and how fast you are adding trucks. If waiting 45 days on invoices stops you from taking the next load, the fee is usually cheaper than the revenue you turn down. If you are stable and well-capitalized, it is a cost you can skip.
Do dashcams really lower insurance costs?
Not automatically. What moves premiums is the safety record underneath them — fewer preventable crashes, fewer violations, and footage that exonerates your driver when the other party is at fault. Cameras are the tool; the record is what the underwriter prices.
How do you pick these?
We keep the list to one recommendation per category rather than a long directory. The criteria are simple: does it fit a small or mid-size carrier, is the pricing survivable at that size, and would we point a carrier there if there were no affiliate program.
